Nantucket is an island off the coast of the Cape Cod region. It’s listed as a historic area. Nantucket used to be a whaling port. Not quite half of the island is protected land, meaning that many plants and animals can thrive in peace, and plenty of open space remains.
You can get to Nantucket by boat or plane, but due to it being an island, your car will have to be ferried across. If you’d like to go car free, bike paths are plenty, and there are shuttle buses in season. Taxi’s are available as well. It is actually preferred that you leave your car behind, but cars can be accommodated obviously.
You can learn more about Nantucket ferry options here.
You’ll want to check out the Nantucket Film Festival, Nantucket Whaling Museum, Nantucket Wine Festival, Nantucket restaurants and of course Nantucket beaches while you’re visiting. If you’re looking for something exciting – consider the Nantucket Triathlon.
The official Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce site is here. Be sure to check them out for a visitor’s guide and plenty of details.
